Yesterday, 26th March 2016 at 11:30 Nom and I were still talking about how we could stay active after the stretch and sweep, 5 and a half hours later, 16:58 Nom held Aria Reka in her arms. How crazy is that?!
Our little Aria takes after her mum she doesn't wait for long, "whatever needs done and it needs done now". Just 5 days overdue she came and brought a completely new dimension to our lives. Ok, here is the story: On the way out of our appointment in which we got some treatment and advice on how to start off labour, Nom said, "I think I'm leaking." She went to the toilet, came out confused and we left the hospital doors and Nom called Mum to ask her what to do as this "leaking" continued. The conclusion we came to was, "let's go back into the hospital all the way up into the Midwife Led Unit to tell them, "We believe Nom's waters have gone." Remember we had just left 5 minutes ago. We went up and the midwife was really good examined the "leakage" and confirmed our hope(!?). She told us what we should keep an eye on and said if nothing happened within the next 24 hours we should go into hospital. 5 minutes later we stood outside the hospital, again. This time Nom had a new kind cramps in her tummy. We managed to get to the car with one or two stops. The way home was uncomfortable for Nom,yet really exciting for me. After 25 minutes travel and buying some Pizza and ice-cream, we arrived at home as the contractions were already regular and painful. It was 14:00. Nom went into the bedroom to cope with the pain while I was starting up the oven to make us some pizza. The contractions got stronger and the both of us lost hope and appetite for the pizza. We called the hospital and they told us to wait for another hour to see how the contractions would develop, even though they were already strong and every two minutes or less. So 25 minutes later we called again to say we were coming in. By that time Nom's app had told us to go to hospital about 10 times. Not even out the door Nom said she felt she needed to push, which she thankfully didn't do. Again less than 15 minutes later we arrived at the Hospital, parked the car, and made our way to the labour ward. We had to stop about 10 times because the contractions came, and there was no way that Nom could walk through them. Finally we arrived at the place we thought we were told to go to on the phone, only to realise that I had left the hospital notes in the car, so I ran back to get the paperwork. By the time I got the paperwork, Nom was already in a labour room and I joined her for another few minutes before the midwife came in and stayed with us almost until Aria was here. It was not long until our little daughter was born and we could hold her in our arms and cry for joy over this amazing miracle. That's the gist of the story, I have left you in the dark about the times when Nom panicked, screamed, or pinched me; or about the times when I couldn't speak because of a big know in my throat, or the times that I just looked at my beautiful wife in a lot of pain and couldn't help. But it's not about the pain, it's about the gain. And I think the world, this country, our family has gained an amazing little girl, who is nowhere short of a miracle. The world has gained a sweet song, Aria Reka. - Paul, the new Papa in the house. Only a couple of weeks and a few days until our due date, until our darling baby comes into this world. It's crazy to think that soon we shall be parents. Sometimes we both get overwhelmed when we think about what is coming. We have found out that we now have a beautiful niece, which also makes us realise how close it is before this little one will be here.
Paul has had dreams about our child at different ages and wakes to tell me, sometimes this makes me sit and think for a long time about what it will be like. We haven't found out what the gender of our baby is, so I sit and think about what it will be like to have either a girl or a boy. With a girl, I see how I long to protect her from hurt and have a relationship with her that is so close as mother and daughter and a friendship that will last for as long as either of us live. For a boy, i think about his life and hope that he will turn out like his father. I hope he will be kind and loving and gentle. We shall keep you updated with out child and when they shall be born into this world, it looks like we will have a smallish baby. We just can't wait to meet them :) |
